She is personable, focused and very precise, making sure your body is exactly where it should be, with all body parts doing their proper job to minimize any chance of hurting yourself.
I could barely do a squat when I first started strength training, let alone a squat with a weighted barbell on my back. By the time my 73rd birthday rolled around, I was squatting sets of 73 lbs! Now, I’m up to 80lbs. My personal best deadlift is 105 lb. I am much more confident when lifting anything. I carry 25-30 lb. bags of dog food, cat food, garden mulch, etc, without much concern, channeling Amanda in my head, using the proper form to avoid any chance of injury. I highly recommend Amanda as your coach. You will be pleased with the results.

I am 83 years old and in relatively good health. I gave up my gym membership during the pandemic and then my only exercise had been walking several miles on the weekends. Last year, a friend introduced me to Amanda Newman who I hired as a personal trainer. She was sensitive to my physical needs and limitations and intelligently addressed many of the problems I’m experiencing as a result of aging. Specifically, I need to use my arms to get up from a seated position and I cannot sit on the floor because I can’t get up from this position. Amanda has developed a program of exercises to address strengthening my legs to help with those things, as well as exercises to address problems I have with my balance. I am beginning to see a difference in what I can do as a result of our sessions. I think she is really smart and knowledgeable about what she does, and she is always pleasant to work with.

When I couldn't hoist my carry-on bag into the overhead bin on a flight, I realized my workout routine wasn't doing enough for me anymore. I needed professional, customized guidance to help me regain the strength I'd lost. That's when I started the search for a personal trainer and found Amanda. I had some anxiety about doing this. I worried a trainer's expectations would be beyond my capabilities; I worried I'd feel like a failure. I had recently retired and wondered if, in my sixties, I was just too old for this personal training stuff. Amanda put my mind at ease from our very first session. She meets me where I am in my fitness journey with a blend of kindness, highly specific cuing, and genuine encouragement. She clearly spends a lot of time creating custom training sessions that push me just hard enough so I can make progress without exhaustion. She has a great depth of knowledge about the human body and I'm learning so much, including the right way to do classic exercises I've been doing wrong for years. I leave sessions with her feeling tired (like I worked out) yet energized! Training with Amanda is now a very important part of my workout routine and I'm so thankful for her.

I had no hesitation when choosing to start Functional Fitness sessions with Amanda, at TruFit, in September 2024. Fortunately, I have a daughter and friends that teach other exercise modalities and they recommended TruFit to round out my existing routine of walking, Pilates, and Gyrontic.
No matter your age, I am a convert for the need of Functional Fitness to maintain independence as long as humanly possible. It is amazing to see my body respond to this new challenge. Muscle tone has, and continues, to improve everywhere. It has even woken some up. By saying YES to everything, I am able to challenge myself with these new exercises, which gives way to emotionally having more confidence in my body and mentally knowing that I can do anything.
Amanda is a lovely human who is very knowledgeable and empathetic. She is not a cookie-cutter trainer. Everything is geared towards you mentally, physically, and emotionally. I am so happy I found her.

When I first started training with Amanda, I was planning to do three months so I could learn the equipment and do workouts on my own. However at the end of the three months, I didn’t want to stop working with her! Nearly two years later, I’m stronger and learning new exercises all the time. She does a great job of modifying based on where my body is at that week/month, and building a plan around my goals and dance performance schedule.
